For several years St. Mark’s has provided a number of backpacks filled with school supplies (paper, pencils, erasers, etc.) to Galway Elementary School, which is an elementary school close to the church.  The backpacks are distributed by the school to students who would otherwise have difficulty acquiring the necessary supplies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many difficulties with the schools, but St. Mark’s has determined that the backpack ministry can still be supported for the 2020-2021 school year.  This year instead of gathering supplies, the Montgomery County Public Schools are accepting monetary donations towards the provision of backpacks.  A “backpack” is a $10.00 donation this year, which will be used to purchase and to supply students with the filled backpack.  What makes this program even more special is that donations can be designated to a specific school.  Rev. Wilkins and the Vestry determined that St. Mark’s will keep its commitment to Galway by donating $650.00, the equivalent of 65 Backpacks!

If you would like to contribute to this extremely worthy cause, please send your donation to the Church Office, designating “Backpack Ministry” in the memo line of your check. Last year, St. Mark’s filled and donated 50 desperately needed backpacks to Galway Elementary; let’s pitch in to help our neighborhood elementary school again!
